The Martin D-28 features solid East Indian rosewood back and sides, producing deeper low-end bass resonance, scooped midrange, and rich harmonic overtones with longer sustain.

While both guitars share solid spruce tops and rosewood backs/sides, the HD-28 features scalloped top bracing and classic herringbone trim. Scalloping reduces the mass of the bracing braces under the soundboard, allowing the top to vibrate more freely for enhanced bass projection and dynamic sensitivity compared to the non-scalloped bracing on the standard D-28.

Both the 000 (Auditorium) and OM (Orchestra Model) share the exact same body dimensions and depth. The difference lies in the scale length: the 000 has a shorter 24.9" scale with lower string tension (making bending and fingerstyle fretting easier), whereas the OM has a full 25.4" scale length (providing higher string tension, punchier volume, and greater dynamic headroom for flatpicking).
